Our Fees
Different psychological services are billed at different rates, however, the maximum rate an individual will be charged is the current recommended rate for psychological services published by the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Our fees are guided by the Australian Psychological Society's recommended fees for psychological services.
Initial Consultation
The first step is to make an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and review your child’s history and background information. This session is for parents only so we can discuss all the issues openly. The services we provide will also be discussed and how best we can help to support your child and the family.
All fees will be confirmed at your initial consultation and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify processes before you book in appointments for any further services.
You do not need to bring along a referral to the initial consultation.
Assessments
The assessments administered will be tailored to your child’s specific needs and therefore the total fee will depend on the number and type of assessments administered.
The appointments required for most assessments are:
- Initial consultation for parents (50 mins)
- Two assessment sessions with child (2 hours)
- Feedback session for parents (50 mins)
Please note: The assessment fee will be finalised in the initial consultation and credit card details will be taken at the time of booking the assessments. Assessment reports are completed and forwarded following the final feedback consultation.
All consultation fees are payable at the time of your appointment.
Government and Insurance Rebates
Medicare
If your child has a valid referral from your doctor you can claim a Medicare rebate at each counselling session (up to 10 sessions per year).
- The current Medicare rebate for 50 minute counselling session is $96.65.
To be eligible for the Medicare rebate, your doctor is required to complete a detailed mental health assessment of your child before deciding to refer to receive treatment from a psychologist for up to six sessions.
Please make a doctors appointment for your child prior to their first psychology session if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate. However, you do not need to have made this appointment with your doctor prior to the initial consultation because the initial consultation is just between the parent/s and the psychologist.
After six sessions your child must be reviewed by your doctor and provide SPACES with a second referral to access the rebate for the further four sessions.

Private Health Insurance
If you are NOT claiming Medicare rebates, you can claim a private health fund rebate at each session instead.
Rebates will vary depending on your health fund and your level of cover. You will be required to pay your account up front and will be issued with a receipt to take to your fund to claim.
Please note you can claim through either Medicare or Private Health, not both. Your private health ancillary cover cannot be used to pay the gap between the Medicare rebate and the charge for psychological services.
Medicare does not cover psychological assessments, however you may be eligible for a rebate under your private health cover for a "long consultation".
Please check with your private health provider if you are covered for psychology.
